Former Wolves central defender Christoph Berra has been offered a contract at Ipswich Town, we understand.

The 28-year-old Scottish international who is a free agent after leaving Molineux last month, was signed by Blues boss Mick McCarthy at Molineux for £3m, and Town now seem to be in pole-position to get their man.

The defender went on to make 141 appearances with the Black Country club and is thought to be keen on a reunion with his former boss, although he does have another offer on the table.

McCarthy currently has Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers, who can play at the heart of the defence, although Tyrone Mings, predominantly a left-back, has played there in pre-season.

Bongani Khumalo, from Tottenham, is currently on trial at Portman Road and is keen on making a season-long loan switch to Suffolk, while former Blues star and free agent, Titus Bramble played 90 minutes for Town in Tuesday’s victory at Gillingham.
