Ipswich Town are on course for their lowest average league attendance since relegation from the Premier League in 2002.

During their first 14 seasons back in the Championship they were always in the top half of the division’s average attendance table.

However, with just four games left to play at Portman Road in 2016/17, the average league attendance of 16,636 ranks 16th among the 24 second-tier clubs.

That is exactly what position the Blues occupy in the actual table heading into their final nine matches of a frustrating campaign – starting at Cardiff tomorrow.

When securing a play-off place in 2014/15, Mick McCarthy’s team had the joint best home record in the Championship – W15 D5 L3.

That season saw the club pick up around an extra 1,000 season ticket holders, but more than that failed to renew last summer and the number dropped to around 12,000 for this campaign.

Ipswich’s home league record this season reads: P19 W6 D9 L4 F23 A21 Pts 27 – only Wolves, Rotherham and Wigan have won less times in front of their own fans this season.

On average, across all league games, the Blues have produced three shots on target a game. Their average of 10 shots a game – on or off target – is the worst in the Championship.

In the 42 home league games played since the start of the 2015/16 season they have scored just 16 first half goals, highlighting how rarely they have been able to impose themselves on games early on.

In only four of those 42 matches have they managed to score three or more goals.

Ipswich froze season ticket prices seven times out of 11 years between 2003 to 2013, but have now increased them four years in a row.
