Portsmouth defender Adam Webster is set to sign for Ipswich Town.

A deal is expected to be completed next week which will see 21-year-old centre-half Webster move to Portman Road with Matt Clarke, who was on loan at Fratton Park last season, moving in the opposite direction.

The News in Portsmouth are reporting that the Blues are set to pay a fee of around £500,000, plus Clarke, which would represent manager Mick McCarthy’s biggest transfer fee outlay since arriving in Suffolk in 2012.

Webster made 35 appearances for Pompey last season, scoring twice, and also appeared in both FA Cup clashes with the Blues in January.

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook recently praised teenage defender Clarke: “Clarke has had 12 months with us and been an absolute credit, he is everything you want in a lad, an absolute diamond of a boy,” he told The News.

“If we ever got him back it would only be for the benefit of our club.

“A 19-year-old left-footed centre half would only get better and stronger.

“He has been outstanding for us this season.”
