Ipswich Town have completed the signing of former Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken, on a two-year deal, following a successful trial period.

The 28-year-old was released by Bristol City after four years at Ashton Gate, this summer, and joins former Robins team-mates Paul Anderson and Cole Skuse at Portman Road.

Gerken, who has been brought in to challenge Scott Loach for the number one jersey, began his career with the U’s and won promotion to the Championship with the Essex club in 2006.

After seven years in Essex, Gerken joined Bristol City and went on to make 60 appearances for the West Country club.

The goalkeeper joins Anderson, Skuse, Jay Tabb, David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy on manager Mick McCarthy’s list of summer signings.
