Bristol City are reportedly keeping a close eye on Ipswich Town defender Adam Webster as a potential replacement for Aden Flint, if the giant centre-half is sold before the end of the transfer window.

The Robins are said to have rejected a £6million offer from Derby for the former Swindon man, while Brighton and West Brom have also previously shown interest in the defender.

According to The Sun, City are watching Webster in case their £10m valuation of Flint is met. Manager Lee Johnson, though, is confident he will hold onto his player.

“Well, I can tell you now at this stage the last email received was that Brighton no longer have any interest in the player [Flint],” Johnson told the Bristol Post.“So that’s the latest news on that. Whether they’ll change their mind on that, who knows.

“I think we’ll retain everybody, I really do. I’ve told you before that it will have to be an unbelievable amount of money for us to think about it particularly with one of our key players,” he added.

Webster returned to the Town bench for yesterday’s defeat by Wolves and could potentially be involved for the Blues’ Under 23s on Monday when they face Millwall at Playford Road.

The former Portsmouth defender, who has also struggled with ankle problems during his time at Town, is contracted to the club until the summer of 2019 with the option of a further year.
