Ipswich Town have missed out on summer transfer target Danny Ward, the Rotherham United striker electing to join the Blues’ Championship rivals, Cardiff City, instead.
Former Huddersfield Town striker Ward, who scored twice for Rotherham in the Millers’ 2-2 draw at Portman Road last season, scored 12 goals in the 2016-17 campaign as the South Yorkshire club slipped into the third tier of English football.
The Blues, who have already signed Rangers striker Joe Garner this summer, made a “substantial offer” for the player, according to the Sheffield Star, but the 26-year-old has decided to team-up once agains with his former manager at Rotherham, Neil Warnock, for around £1.6m.
Ward said: “The gaffer, Blacky (Kevin Blackwell) and Jeppo (Ronnie Jepson) really turned things round at Rotherham when they came in and I loved playing for them. I’m looking forward to it again at my new club.”
