Ipswich Town’s under-21s team lost 1-0 to their Crystal Palace counterparts at Tooting & Mitcham yesterday.

The Eagles’ Connor Dymond scored the only goal in a contest that saw Town field Dylan Connolly, Cameron Stewart, Matt Clarke, Darren McQueen and Kundai Benyu, as well as former West Ham winger Matthias Fanimo.

The youngster is reportedly the fastest footballer in the world – after the rookie attacker, an England Under-18 regular, was clocked on GPS radar matching the speed set by Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia in a match.

Glenn Murray and Paddy McCarthy were both included in the home side’s line-up.

Derby missed out on the chance to go top of the Sky Bet Championship last night as they were forced to come from two goals down to earn a point in a pulsating 3-3 draw with Rotherham at New York Stadium.

The Rams, who would have gone above Bournemouth with a win, were staring down the barrel after 60 minutes as the Millers put in a rousing performance and led 3-1 thanks to quickfire second-half goals from Richie Smallwood and Matt Derbyshire.

But there was an air of inevitably about the comeback as soon as Tom Ince grabbed his second goal of the game and Derby’s dominance eventually paid off with seven minutes remaining as former Ipswich striker Darren Bent continued his hot-streak by poking home his sixth goal in six games.

Elsewhere in the division Rudy Gestede struck a late equaliser against former club Cardiff to earn Blackburn a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City Stadium.

Sean Morrison’s 84th-minute header looked set to give Cardiff a first win in seven games.

But Gestede, sold for just £200,000 by the Bluebirds in January 2014, kept Rovers’ hopes of a late play-off charge alive when he converted his 15th goal of the season in the 90th minute.

And Wigan boosted their battle against relegation when they secured only their second win in 18 matches with a 1-0 victory at Reading thanks to a goal from debutant defender Jason Pearce in the 17th minute.

Meanwhile, Brentford manager Mark Warburton is to leave his position at the end of the season. The 52-year-old led the Bees to promotion to the Championship last season and has guided the club to seventh place in the league this term.

In today’s Ipswich Star and EADT, Shelbourne manager Kevin Doherty tells Ipswich Town fans what they can expect from Dylan Connolly and Adam McDonnell.
