Dean Gerken
In truth the goalkeeper had very little to do, either before or after the red card, other than try to get the ball moving quickly from the back after getting the ball. 6
Matthew Pennington
Switched to right back and, despite a few shaky moment in the first half, performed well enough. Defended well when he needed to but was rarely tested after the red card. Wasn’t able to get forward to support the attack when playing with 10 men. 6
Toto Nsiala
Back in the side and solid enough. You know what you’re going to get with Nsiala, an athletic defender who likes to head it and kick it, and he did just that. You could say Ipswich were crying out for a centre back to come out with the ball and use the space afforded to the backline in the second period but that just isn’t his game. 6
Luke Chambers
Ipswich’s star man this afternoon. Made a succession of superb headed clearances, particularly in the first half when he snuffed out a Magennis chance with a header, followed by a second which led to the red card. Had his late header superbly saved by Ben Alnwick at the end. 8
Jonas Knudsen
Did what he needed to defensively and had more time and space than usual to get forward as Bolton sat back with their 10 men. The final ball wasn’t there for him today, though. 5
Trevoh Chalobah
This was Trevoh Chalobah in a nutshell. He displayed his full range of passing during his 45 minutes on the field and looked the most likely to unlock the Bolton defence with a number of good balls. But he turns into trouble on occasions, can be loose in the pass and occasionally sloppy on the ball. He has real talent but we must remember this a young player taking his first steps in senior football. 6
Cole Skuse
Was the man sacrificed to bring on Walters but, before that, had a little more time in advanced areas than usual without being able to do too much with it. Did get into the box with a tricky piece of play in the second period, though. Played well when it was 11v11, though, moving the ball and linking with Jon Nolan. 5
Grant Ward
Made a fantastic, bull-dozing run before picking a superb pass to spring Jackson away to bring about Wilson’s red card. Had moments where he tested his full-back while he also swapped sides, but wasn’t able to impact the game once Bolton were reduced in number. 6
Jon Nolan
Made a real impact after coming off the bench against Brentford on Tuesday night but wasn’t able to do the same today. Saw more of the ball higher up the pitch than in many of his displays of late, where he produced a succession of neat touches while also turning possession over. 6
Gwion Edwards
Lots of hustle, lots of bustle but little by way of end product. He was up and down the right touchline, while also spending time on the left, but was never able to scream past Grounds and saw the majority of his crosses blocked at source. 5
Kayden Jackson
No shortage of effort and his running tested the Bolton defence and forced Wilson’s red card. However, once the visitors settled into two banks of four, where they looked to give little away. His major weapon was completely disarmed. 6
Tayo Edun (for Chalobah 46)
Offered some real spark for half an hour after coming into the game at the break, moving the ball and himself while trying to stretch the Bolton defence. Faded after that, though. 7
Jon Walters (for Skuse, 71)
Made little impact before leaving the field with a nasty-looking injury. 5
Jordan Graham (for Ward, 71)
Made space for a number of teasing balls into the box, with his free-kick leading to Chambers’ late header. 6
