We have assembled a group of Town fans to predict the outcome of Ipswich games and have their say on what’s going on at Portman Road.
Every week, our panel of Ipswich Town fans will make their predictions ahead of the Blues’ latest game, with three points awarded for a correct scoreline and one point given for a correct outcome.
We’ll keep a league table along the way, before crowning a winner at the end of the season.
Kieren Standley: Saturday’s game at home to Burton Albion presents Town with a great opportunity to go into the East Anglian Derby off the back of a couple of morale boosting wins, albeit against two inferior sides. The rock bottom Brewers have been nothing short of horrendous defensively this season, conceding a league high 58 goals, with 18 of those having come in the last five league games.
For me, last week’s victory at Sunderland shows just where Town are in comparison to the rest of the league. We will more than likely see off lesser opposition and be made to look like a good side, but will inevitably come unstuck against those going for the top six. The Blues have beaten Burton three times out of three since their promotion to the Championship and I am incredibly confident that we will see a similar trend on Saturday.
Martyn Waghorn has now gone eleven games without a goal but I think the Town number nine will end his baron drought with another goal against the Staffordshire side. Bersant Celina made a statement with his extremely passionate celebration after netting the late winner at the Pirelli Stadium earlier in the season and I fancy the on-loan Man City man to once again be star of the show, in a comfortable Ipswich win. Prediction: Ipswich Town 3-0 Burton Albion
Katy Sealy: I really enjoyed my experience in the terrace at Burton in October despite the very windy conditions making it a difficult and frustrating game. Celina coming off the bench to score the winner, much to the Town fans delight, is one of my highlights of the season so far. Nigel Clough is one of my favourite managers and he said, after their last game when they lost at Villa, that they will try and play with a smile on their faces even if they are bottom of the league.
Playing with such a great attitude will make it very difficult for us, they will battle and fight right until the final whistle so we have to stay focused, keep our nerve and get the 3 points to take 2 consecutive wins and some confidence into the big match next week!
I think we’ll maintain our 100 per cent record against Burton with a 3-1 Town win. Prediction: Ipswich Town 3-1 Burton Albion
Benjamin Bloom: Ipswich v Burton has been a very good match up for Mick, they’re an honest side in the mould of a McCarthy Ipswich team but with slightly inferior players - hence the 100 per cent winning record.
I’m going to go for a win, the last three have been 2-0, 2-1 and 2-1, so the track record says Ipswich will score twice and as the second lowest away goal scorers in the league I’m hoping Burton continue that way and draw a blank. Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-0 Burton
Seán Salter: After last Saturday’s win against Sunderland, anything less than a win this Saturday will be seen by many as a huge disappointment. It’s hard to tell what Burton team will turn up at Portman Road. Will it be the one that has lost their last four games, or the one that beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Hillsborough at the start of the year?
With the latest managerial circus surrounding Mick McCarthy, the atmosphere at Portman Road could change quickly if Town do not get off to a quick start.
I don’t think this will be as easy as most pundits think, and I predict a late leveller by the Blues to give McCarthy’s team a share of the points. Prediction: Ipswich Town 1 Burton Albion 1
Joe Fairs: After the good win at Sunderland last week, I fancy ITFC to follow that up with a home win against bottom club Burton. I don’t think the game will be as easy as it looks on paper as Burton will set out to frustrate and are a tough team to break down. Our quality should shine through but I wouldn’t expect a craking spectacle and expect a similar performance and the same result as when we beat Bolton back in September.
It would be nice for Martyn Waghorn to get back on the score sheet, and to go into the Norwich game on the back of 2 wins, 2 clean sheets and both our strikers in goalscoring form. Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-0 Burton Albion
Alistair Rattray: Regardless of Burtons league position, expect to see Town take a measured and careful approach to their visitors, rather than “go for the throat”.
This also represents a good opportunity for Martyn Waghorn to break his 11-game scoreless streak. Whilst the top scorer has continued to contribute, it will surely be something he is keen to address, particularly as he is likely to be given another opportunity in a central role. Expect to see Celina return to the team in place of Sears, but Grant Ward may well have done enough to keep David McGoldrick on the bench.
Although Towns faint play-off hopes still flicker, the reality is that back to back wins would provide a good boost ahead of the more achievable target of finally earning a Derby win. Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-0 Burton Albion
José López Lerena: Football is back to Portman Road as we take on Burton Albion tomorrow! Burton is currently settled on the bottom of the table just a point behind Sunderland who was actually defeated by us last Saturday. As i said, we managed to go back to the winning ways after beat the Black Cats 2-0 at the Stadium of light, so i can only expect another win tomorrow and maybe a similar performance!
However, we must be very careful as we definitely shouldn’t repeat when we faced then at the Pirelli Stadium last October when a stunning free-kick from Celina gave us the 3 Points in the 89th minute… Also we should keep an eye on our well known Luke Varney and probably Darrent Bent!
So my prediction is 3-1 for Ipswich Town (Celina, Waghorn and Garner)! Come On Ipswich! COYB! Prediction: Ipswich Town 3-1 Burton Albion
Jack Prentice: Twelfth-placed Ipswich Town at home to bottom side Burton should be a straightforward match to call. Yet with Ipswich it never is. On our day, Town can harry the opposition into numerous mistakes playing with organisation at the back and gusto at the front.
However, Town can also run out of ideas if a team at the bottom of the table come in, sit deep and try to take a point.
I expect a return for Bersant Celina, despite Freddie Sears’ decent performance at Sunderland and hope Grant Ward remains ahead of David McGoldrick wide right. McGoldrick is as much a winger as I am an astronaut. I expect a Town win, but battling Burton won’t make it easy. Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-0 Burton Albion
Amy Downes: Last weekend I saw a very different Ipswich side to the one I’ve become used to of late, we looked more confident and the stronger side against Sunderland.
In theory, that should carry over to tomorrow - Burton are another team struggling this year, I see no reason for McCarthy to hold the team back to play defensively and, as long as he goes for it, we should come out on top. More importantly, 6 points in two games would surely give us the confidence we need going into the derby next week? 3-1 for me, Garner and Sears to score. Prediction: Ipswich Town 3-1 Burton Albion
