Ipswich Town remain winless and are back at the bottom of the Championship following their 2-0 defeat by Hull this afternoon.
Jarrod Bowen scored the first goal of the game for the hosts after just four minutes, as he escaped the Ipswich defence and dinked the ball home, with the Blues, in truth, having little response.
All hope was lost with a minute left, when Jordan Spence allowed Jackson Irvine to glide past him and beat Gerken.
Attempts at goal were few and far between, with the first Ipswich effort on target coming well into the second half, while the visitors failed to capitalise on good spells of pressure either side of the break.
They now head into back-to-back home games against Brentford and Bolton bottom of the table, following results today, with manager Paul Hurst still searching for a first win.
The Ipswich manager made just one change to the side which drew 1-1 with Norwich last time out, with Flynn Downes coming into the side in place of Kayden Jackson, with the chosen line-up never finding their feet before they slipped behind.
It started in the centre of midfield as Downes gave possession away, allowing Hull to attack down their right which led to Bowen dinking the ball over Dean Gerken and into the back of the net. Matthew Pennington and Cole Skuse did their best to try and keep it out but the ball dribbled over the line.
The Blues struggled to respond, with Hull having the better of the ball and threatening whenever Bowen was allowed space on the right side, as the visitors found it hard to bring striker Jon Walters or creative midfielder Nolan into the game.
But they did enjoy a spell of pressure towards the end of the half as Nolan saw a shot fly over the bar, had another blocked and Jordan Graham curled an effort wide of the target after finding his footing in the contest.
They started the second half in reasonable fashion, too, with Graham not quite able to bring an Edwards cross under control at the back post and then Flynn Downes shooting wide from the edge of the box.
Kayden Jackson and Danny Rowe were sent on in a bid for an equaliser, while Ellis Harrison was given five minutes to make something happen, but Spence’s poor piece of play allowed Irvine in to end the contest.
