Members of our fans’ jury have their say head of this weekend’s derby clash between Ipswich and Norwich.

It has become slowly inevitable that this game would take on such significance. The team will not be relegated on the back of a single loss, but faith in the new regime will inevitably take a hit for those easily swayed.

Whilst it is still early days in this season, those who remember the 2001/02 season will recall how easily confidence ebbs from a team and how difficult it is to regain.

The potential return of Jon Walters seems the perfect antidote; if ever a player fitted the bill for what is needed, even more so given his close-hand knowledge of the derby. It could be the best signing Paul Hurst makes.

This is the poorest Norwich side that we will have come up against since we last beat them. Unfortunately, its probably come a few weeks too early to be able to take full advantage, but a stirring performance will lift fans and players alike.

Prediction: Ipswich Town 1-1 Norwich City

Things come in threes, don’t they?

Well we’ve ended two long runs against teams already this season after losing a 12-year streak at Derby and an 11-year run at Sheffield Wednesday, both in which we were unbeaten, so why not put the stat about 2009 to bed against Norwich? I know they best Cardiff in the week but the Canaries are not exactly flying and have four wins from 21 league matches.

Town have played a lot better than the results suggest and I’m optimistic ahead of the weekend. As an aside, I’m covering the British GT series decider at Donnington Park in three weeks, and a friend from another publication is a Norwich supporter. So I could really do with some bragging rights. Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-1 Norwich City

Nerves reaching to high levels, butterflies in our stomachs, nails almost gone… we must be really close to the D-Day!

Perhaps it is not coming in the best moment as we’ve rocked the bottom of the table after 5 games (and the Carabao Cup exit against Exeter City)….. but the table is unfair to us and we are being so unlucky with our referees!

Our squad has potential, good and bossy football, a very hungry and clever manager, and so much passion from our fans (Portman Road is experiencing one of the best atmosphere in recent years)!

So perhaps this derby is coming at the perfect time as our Skipper said! We must believe in ourselves, we must keep the faith on Paul Hurst and our Boys, we must be giving our best as fans! It will be massive to start to marching up the table with a win over the budgies at our coliseum! Let’s fight as war horses! COYB! My prediction is a 2-1 win for the Tractor Boys (Edwards and Graham)

My feelings on the derby seem to be changing by the hour.

One moment I am excited, filled with hope that this may be the year, finally, we end their unbeaten record against us. The next I am dreading it, sensing the familiar feeling of disappointment come Sunday evening. Times have changed, Norwich are no longer the Kings of Anglia (as I wrote about in my recent blog) and we are back on a level playing field this year.

I feel sorry for them really, the derby games are the two biggest moments of their season... whereas for Ipswich this year is about so much more than that, we’re at the start of something big - hopefully we can show them that with a win.

‘Until this week I wasn’t feeling overly confident about the result, but the arrival of Walters has boosted me greatly, as it will the team and the fans - so I’m going for an optimistic 2:0 with Walters and Chambers to score.

Prediction: Ipswich Town 2-0 Norwich City

So here we go again, the East Anglian Derby is on the doorstep and the anticipation is starting to build. There are two ways of looking at this.First, Town come into this game still searching for their first win of the Paul Hurst era and it begs the question of what the morale must be like within the squad going into a season-defining Derby. On the other hand Norwich are hardly world beaters and have looked vulnerable, especially defensively, so there should be an element of confidence that if Town click they have a fantastic chance of taking this game.

To end the hoodoo and get a win could be absolutely enormous in terms of building for the rest of the season. Not only is getting the monkey off our backs essential, but that first win in a game like this could help Town start to climb up the table, with a favourable September schedule on the Horizon.

I’m following my heart and predicting that Paul Hurst will get his first win as Town boss and giving our long-suffering fan base something to smile about. I’m predicting a tight affair where neither side will take too many risks in fear of making a mistake and I believe that the winning goal will come in the latter stages of the game. The narrative of Jon Walters returning to score the winner on Derby Day in a 1-0 win is the stuff of dreams and that’s what I’m going with.

Come On You Blues!

Prediction: Ipswich Town 1-0 Norwich City (Walters)
