Ipswich Town will host National League outfit Lincoln City in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup, after the Imps defeated League One side, Oldham Athletic, 3-2, at Sincil Bank on Monday night.
Lincoln, relegated from the Football League in 2011, were 3-0 up after 47 minutes against their higher-ranked visitors, courtesy of two goals from Theo Robinson and a strike from Terry Hawkridge.
However, goals from Peter Clarke and Billy McKay ensured a nervy finish for a City side, managed by former Braintree Town boss, Danny Cowley.
Ipswich have only played Lincoln on 10 occasions in their history, all in the league, the teams’ last meeting coming in April 1961, the Blues winning 4-1 at Sincil Bank.
Mick McCarthy’s Blues, who have not won an FA Cup tie since January 2010, will receive £67,500 if they make progress against a team that are currently second-from-top in the Conference’s top tier.
Lincoln last made it to the Third Round in the 2009-10 season, losing 4-0 to Bolton, then of the Premier League.
The tie will take place over the weekend of January 6-9.
