Derby v Ipswich: Reading midfielder Jay Tabb has extended his stay at Ipswich Town until the end of the season – though a 24-hour recall clause has been included.
The 29-year-old’s initial one-month loan spell was due to expire after Saturday’s game at Derby but the former Brentford man will now see out the remainder of the campaign at Portman Road.
Tabb is out of contract at the Madjeski Stadium in the summer and has already indicated that he would be keen on a permanent switch to Suffolk.
“It’s been extended until the end-of-the-season,” revealed McCarthy. “They’ve got a recall on it, but they’ll only recall him if they want to play him. If they wanted to play him in the Premier League then I couldn’t deny him that, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
“He’s loving it here and just wants to play.”
