PAUL Jewell felt “gutted” that his team did not hold on for a 1-0 win over Hull City this afternoon.

Jason Scotland’s ninth goal of the season, just before the hour mark, looked as though it would be enough to secure another three points for improving Town.

But substitute Jay Simpson rescued a point for the Tigers with a deft backward header on 85 minutes, that gave keeper Marton Fulop no chance. It was only their second effort on goal in the whole match.

Jewell said: “I thought that was the best we have played since I have been here.

“It was frustrating to concede so late in the day, perhaps the number of games we have been playing caught up with us?

“I thought it was a really good performance, up until they scored, and I thought we deserved to win this match. But we are still on a good run.

“It was a good header from their lad (Simpson) and sometimes you have to hold up your hands and say it was a good goal.”

Jewell also praised full debutant Andy Drury: “Andy is a good footballer. He just tired a little bit near the end.”
