THE writing was on the wall for Paul Jewell as manager of Ipswich Town after last night’s 2-1 home defeat to Derby County made it 11 games without a win and sent the Blues to the bottom of the Championship.
That is the verdict of Motherwell boss Stuart McCall who played under Jewell and his assistant Chris Hutchings at Bradford.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, McCall said: “You could see he was hurting at the weekend (when Town lost to Hull 2-1) – he is a proud man.
“I was delighted when I saw Ipswich had gone ahead against Derby but then to be pegged back like that was cruel. The writing was probably on the wall as we are all in a results-driven business.
“Paul will be hurting. I know him and Chris would have worked tirelessly but sometimes it doesn’t work and you have to move on.”
