PAUL Jewell was understandably delighted with his first win in charge of Ipswich Town, following a crucial 3-2 home success over Doncaster Rovers this afternoon.

“Because of the situation we are in, this was an important three points,” explained Jewell.

“I thought we were a bit edgy in the first half. I just told them at half-time to play with a little more belief and confidence, which I know is easier said than done.

“But I thought we showed a lot of character in the second half. To concede a goal within seconds of going 2-1 up was a kick in the teeth, but the heads did not drop.

“However, it’s only one result and this is still a long-term project,” added Jewell.

Town were trailing 1-0 at the break, through Billy Sharp’s sixth minute opener, but they bagged three goals in an entertaining second period.

Goals from David Norris and Connor Wickham - his first of the season - put Town 2-1 up, only for Sharp to equalise almost immediately.

But a deflected shot from Carlos Edwards earned all three points for Town, only their second in their last 11 league games. They are now five points clear of the relegation zone.
