Earlier today the 37-year-old was understood to have been locked in talks with the club's hierarchy after weeks of rumours that his time as manager could be drawing to a close.
Keane has made no secret of the fact that he is not relishing the pressures of management after a series of poor results have seen Sunderland plunge into the Premier League relegation zone.
