ANGRY Roy Keane bemoaned slack defending and missed opportunities as Ipswich crashed out of the Carling Cup 2-1 at Peterborough United.

Tamas Priskin scored, and had a penalty saved by Joe Lewis, while Lee Frecklington and George Boyd replied for Posh.

Keane said: “It was a big factor in the game. If you don't take the opportunities then you have to deal with it.

“We were still 1-0 up but if we had been two up it would have been difficult for them to come back.

“We are disappointed we did not get something out of the game. We started well and when we got it down and passed it we looked a decent team. The second goal was a major disappointment.

“With the first goal you say outstanding strike, but with the second it was very poor defending.”

Keane is ready to release players and bring in new players, although he denied reports last night that he was after Celtic skipper Stephen McManus.

He said: “We will see how the next few days go. There is no guarantee about any transfers and we have to focus on the group we have.”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson, who had his dad Sir Alex in the crowd, said: “It was a good result and a much needed win.

“With the second half performance we just about edged it. The penalty was the turning point when Joe (Lewis) saved it. If we had gone 2-0 down it may have been different.”

Just as Keane had hoped a win would turn their season around, Ferguson hopes the win can kick start United's campaign, which resumes with a match against Crystal Palace on the Bank Holiday.

He said: “It won't mean much unless we go on and win on Monday.”
