The former Manchester United star has been invited to train with Keane's Ipswich Town side before the start of the new season.
Town boss Keane looks set to offer his former Old Trafford team-mate a return to English football after leaving Belgian club Tubize on a free.
But Brown has now set his sights on signing Fortune, 32, as he looks to strengthen his defence.
The South Africa international also had a brief spell with Bolton and would probably jump at the chance of a return to the top flight, rather than in the Championship with the Blues.
