Jonas Knudsen was an unused substitute in the first leg of Denmark’s World Cup play-off clash with the Republic of Ireland, which ended 0-0.

Ireland and Denmark meet again in Dublin on Tuesday, following their Copenhagen stalemate, with Knudsen again likely to be involved from the bench.

There is an outside chance David McGoldrick could return for Martin O’Neill’s side having struggled with a groin injury after initially being named in the Ireland squad.

Town defender Tommy Smith was taken off injured during New Zealand’s World Cup play-off draw with Peru, with the Macclesfield-born player unsure if his knock will keep him out of the second leg in the early hours of Thursday morning.

“I just felt my calf, so time will tell really,” Smith told Stuff.co.nz. “Compress it, ice it tonight and then assess it in the morning.”

Young midfielder Flynn Downes was also in international action this weekend, winning his third England Under 19s cap in his side’s 2-1 European Championship qualification victory over Iceland.
