IN-FORM Ipswich Town midfielder Lee Martin has been pipped to February’s ‘Championship Player of the Month’ award by Reading keeper Adam Federici.

Since being converted from winger to advanced central midfielder, Martin has hit the form of his career.

Last month he scored an impressive brace in a 3-0 home win over high-flying Cardiff and also played a major part in victories at Coventry and Portsmouth.

One of three nominees for the division’s best performing player, Martin – along with Southampton striker Rickie Lambert – was beaten by Reading keeper Adam Federici.

The Australian – who is keeping Town loanee Alex McCarthy out of the Berkshire club’s side – kept four clean sheets as the Royals picked up maximum points from their February fixtures.

The judging panel for the award comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Peter Beagrie, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and npower Head of Sponsorship Emma Collins.
