Bristol City v Ipswich: THE ‘Mac Attack’ have been warned – score goals or the strike partnership will be split up.

January additions David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean have started the last two matches up front for Ipswich Town, but they failed to find the net in draws against Cardiff and Barnsley.

Michael Chopra, Daryl Murphy and fellow new boy Frank Nouble are all champing at the bit – and Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he won’t be afraid to mix things up if necessary.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s match at rock-bottom Championship side Bristol City, he said: “We’ve got five of them (strikers) haven’t we? If we find a really good partnership I’ll stick with that. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try something else.”

McGoldrick – who is currently on loan but will sign a two-year year deal in the summer – scored 17 goals in 25 appearances on loan for League One club Coventry City in the first half of the season.

The 25-year-old scored just eight goals in English football’s second tier for previous club Nottingham Forest though, while Mclean – on loan from Hull and short of match fitness after dropping down the pecking order at the KC Stadium – has found the net just nine times in 76 league appearances for the Tigers.

“Aaron has not had the games that David’s had and it’s looked that way in terms of match sharpness,” said McCarthy.

“Aaron is a real handful though and I think David has got better in the games. He played well last week (in the 1-1 home draw with Barnsley).”

Town are the lowest scoring side in the Championship with just 28 goals from 28 games, with over a third of those having been provided by recent QPR loanee striker DJ Campbell – who scored 10 goals in 17 matches.

Murphy and Chopra have provided five and three league goals respectively this season, while Jason Scotland – who has just left the club – also scored one. Just three goals have come from midfielders (Luke Hyam, Guirane N’Daw and Jay Emmnauel-Thomas with one apiece), while five have come from defence (Aaron Cresswell (2), Luke Chambers (2) and Tommy Smith).
