Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane have been confirmed tonight as the new team in charge of the Republic of Ireland.
Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney told Newstalk Radio that he hoped to confirm the appointment of O’Neill as Republic head coach and former Ipswich boss Keane as his assistant on Saturday.
But it emerged this evening O’Neill, who has signed a two-year contract, is succeeding Giovanni Trapattoni as the team’s head coach with Keane working alongside him.
The news will be a relief for Ipswich Town fans, with manager Mick McCarthy having been heavily linked with the job in recent weeks.
