IPSWICH Town's youngsters gained a morale-boosting 1-0 win over West Ham in a pre-season friendly at the Londoners' Little Heath training complex.

Many of last year's side have moved on and it was a much-changed team. Portuguese trialist Fabio Lopez was given another chance to impress after a promising debut against Debenham in which he scored the Town's opening goal.

With Canadian Caolan Lavery leading the line alongside Lopez, Ronan Murray who has been outstanding in pre-season was rested.

In a close match against a side whose record is second to none in producing young players, it was inevitably Murray who came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in the 64th minute.

Ipswich: McLoughlin, Bennett, Dunbar, Hyam Meekings, Eastman, Clark, Cawley, Lavery, Lopez, Griffiths. Subs: Murray, Brandon, Burke, Carson, McKeown.

Town's Under-16's lost 4-1 to the Hammers with a weakened side at Playford Road.

It has been a busy pre-season for Towns youth players with the older members emerging unbeaten from a variety of friendly matches against mainly Ridgeons League opposition.

An Under-15 team took part in the annual Umbro Galway Cup finishing a rather disappointing fifth in the Elite U15 group behind Leicester Fulham and Aberdeen.
