Ipswich Town’s latest recruit, striker James Alabi, snubbed an offer from Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday to go on trial with the Blues.
The former Stoke City man has signed a one-year deal after impressing Mick McCarthy, scoring for the under-21s in the wins against Leeds and Coventry.
The trial has gone well. I just got my head down and showed the manager what I can do,” Alabi, who has had loan spells at Accrington, Mansfield and Scunthorpe, told the club website.
“I see this at the start of my career now. I don’t think I have really had the opportunities at other clubs but the manager here has told me to come in, work hard and we will see what happens.
“I was offered something at Sheffield Wednesday but I knew Ipswich were interested in having a look at me and I’m delighted to have got a contract sorted. Now it’s up to me to impress Mick McCarthy.”
