Fuller Flavour: Losing at QPR will tell a story that is statistically correct in that we have now lost three games in a row, writes Karl Fuller.

Does this mean that we should now revert back to our mood at the end of last season after such a good start to the season?

Has the feel-good factor evaporated already?

I would rather take each of the last three games in isolation and stay with the fact that we continue to miss a number of key players, especially at the back.

We were all heaping praise on the efforts of our kids at Crystal Palace. That was an acceptable defeat if there is ever such a game.

Then two weeks ago, Fulham were simply too good for us no matter who we had missing on the day.

QPR had already beaten Reading and Hull at Loftus Road this season and are obviously decent on home soil. Plus we never get anything there these days. So let’s put that one to bed and see where we’re at this time next week.

It would be foolish to read too much into the fact that Bolton, Saturday’s opposition at Portman Road, are bottom of the league so must be a poor side. But if there was a fixture to really see where we are at now, then perhaps this will come at a good time for us.

Win and all will be well again and we can dismiss Fulham and QPR as two tough games.

Lose and then maybe we can start to get a bit twitchy about where we’re heading.

I’m not saying it’s a must win game but it was a real rarity to feel good about Ipswich again throughout August, I just hate the thought of those days being behind us again so soon.

We saw some changes on Saturday and though the result might suggest otherwise, I think they were probably for the best.

Callum Connolly coming in for his debut made sense to give our defence at least one player in their correct position – in the event, we had two in their rightful place.

Our midfield was questioned again and with Tom Adeyemi now fit again maybe we’ll start to see him involved more. But for me, it’s an old-age problem of ours and that is genuine width with pace.

Surely Bersant Celina is ready for a start. Get him in from the start against Bolton I say.

I often think that too much of the simple side of the game has disappeared. Whatever happened to a good-old fashioned 4-4-2? Why don’t we see two authentic wingers anymore?

I do wonder what we could do with two genuine wingers with pace, a couple of solid but forward-thinking midfielders. I suppose every club in the Championship is after that magic formula but at Ipswich, it’s rare to see us even trying this.

I’d love to see us get at Bolton from the off.

Maybe have Celina and Danny Rowe attacking down the wings, get Adeyemi in from the start with say Flynn Downes. The problem with this is, which two of Joe Garner, Martyn Waghorn and David McGoldrick would you play up top?

When you pose questions like this, you realise to an extent the dilemma that Mick has when making his team selections.

Whilst I’m glad not to have his selection headaches, I do wish sometimes he could be a little more adventurous with his tactics instead of being too conservative as he is at times.

So for now, I’m not pressing the panic button just yet, the ice is not thin and there’s still much to smile about so far this season. Yes we have lost three games in a row, but have a great opportunity to bring an end to that run on Saturday.

Lose on the other hand and I can see the tide of goodwill turning against Mick.
