IPSWICH Town could make one last ditch effort to sign David Nugent, even if it is just initially on loan.

Although the striker has been reluctant to leave Fratton Park and drop down a division, Harry Redknapp has made it clear he has no future there and he will be better off playing regular football in the Championship than rotting in the reserves.

With a deal to land Shola Ameobi looking increasingly unlikely, unless Newcastle back down from their stance, Town will go elsewhere with Spanish striker Jose Emilio Guerra and Slovenian Milivoje Nokakovic still very much in their thoughts.

Another centre half is also on the list but Town have denied they are one of the Championship clubs bidding for Walsall's Anthony Gerrard, cousin of Liverpool's Steven, who has handed in a transfer request so he can engineer a move.
