BLUES boss Jim Magilton has again warned Jaime Peters that his Ipswich future could be affected by his international appearances for Canada.

Earlier this month Magilton spoke of his concerns over Peters' form when he came back for pre-season last year and farmed him out to Yeovil on loan.

Magilton has reiterated that concern with Peters this week due to face Brazil in a friendly in Seattle, followed by a game against Panama a week on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale as preparation for a world Cup group matches.

Magilton said: “It is Brazil so you can't say no to Jaime playing, but he played for Canada last season and it did affect him in pre-season.

There is obviously the travelling involved and when he came back to us he was not as sharp as we would have liked. He was then playing catch up.”

Also getting a late start to their summer break are Blues duo Owen Garvan and Alex Bruce who are looking to be in international action this afternoon as the Republic of Ireland entertain Serbia at Croke Park.

Bruce is looking to win his second full cap after making his debut against Ecuador in America last summer, while Garvan could make his senior debut in Giovanni Trapattoni's first game in charge.

The Republic then meet Columbia on Thursday at Fulham's Craven Cottage.

Also in the Irish squad is Carlisle keeper Kieron Westwood who has been linked to the Blues, although those suggestions appear wide of the mark.

Ditto to Nottingham Forest midfielder Sammy Clingan who has again been named as a Town target, but that also appears without foundation.

The Blues are close to signing a European central defender who has spent last season playing abroad.

Wigan's Andreas Gronqvist who was on loan at Swedish club Helsingborgs last season is among the names being suggested.
