IPSWICH Town could be about to cash in on Danny Haynes - with Plymouth Argyle reported to be ready to smash the club's transfer record with a 1 million offer for the speedy winger.

The Daily Star and Sky Sports News have claimed that Pilgrims' boss Paul Sturrock is poised to bid double the club's current transfer record of 500,000 paid for Steve MacLean.

Haynes was first linked with Plymouth a fortnight ago when Swansea were also mentioned in connection with a possible move.

The arrival of left winger Lee Martin from Manchester United at Portman Road could mean Keane - who started Haynes on the left wing in the absence of Martin in the club's first pre-season friendly in Ireland on Tuesday night - might let Haynes go for the right price.

The 21-year-old - who started out as a striker - has represented England at Under-19 level. A product of the youth academy at Charlton, Haynes has notched up 128 appearances for Ipswich, scoring 17 goals.

Sturrock will be keen to beef up his attack following the loss of Emile Mpenza and reports of MacLean signing for Aberdeen.
