AARON Cresswell has claimed his equaliser in last night’s 1-1 draw with Den Bosch was “a bit of a fluke”.

The left-back struck a 8rd minute free-kick that was deflected past home keeper Bruno Appels to ensure Town return home from the Netherlands this morning unbeaten.

Cresswell said: “I think it was a bit of a fluke but they all count. It is a pre-season game and a good work-out for the lads. Obviously we didn’t play as well as we thought we could, but the two games are not about the result.

“We care about winning but it is more about the fitness side. Both sides (we played) were good passing teams – back in England, it is totally different.”

After enduring a nightmare end to his dream first season at Portman Road, when he suffered a hamstring injury in the penultimate game against Millwall, Cresswell is fighting fit again.

He explained: “It wasn’t a nice way to end the season but in one way, it was a good time to get injured going into the summer.

“I have been in the club over the summer doing work and strengthening my hamstrings and I still have a few weeks until the start of the season to get even fitter.”

With manager Paul Jewell putting his side through double sessions of training, there are no complaints from last season’s supporters player of the year.

“It is pre-season, not a holiday,” Cresswell said. “We should be running and getting fitness levels up.

“The season is in the back of our mind with about a month left. We are preparing well for August 18 but there is still a long way to go and hopefully we can get a few good games in.”
