CARDIFF City chairman Peter Ridsdale has put a 5million price tag on central defender Roger Johnson, a confirmed Ipswich Town target.

Premier League new boys Birmingham City have had two bids for Johnson rejected, while previous Blues boss Jim Magilton made his interest in the player public.

Ridsdale said: “A fee of 5m, subject to how it's paid, is a figure where we'd have to put it to Roger.”

Johnson, 26, who was named in the Professional Footballers Association's Championship Team of the Year, has told Cardiff that he would like a Premier League chance.

“It'll always be a blow when you lose your best players,” said Ridsdale. “But there'll be no point having good players here who are moaning.”

Sunderland and Middlesbrough have also shown an interest.

Town midfielder-turned-defender Jaime Peters will miss much pre-season training after being named in the Canadian squad for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA next month.

Peters, 22, won his 16th full cap in a friendly victory over Cyprus last month after being out of the international picture for almost a year.

Canada start their group campaign with a game against Jamaica on July 3 in Los Angeles, then four days later they are in Columbus facing El Salvador, before completing the opening phase on July 10 in Miami against Costa Rica.

Town's reserves matches will all be scheduled for Portman Road on Wednesdays, kicking off at 2pm next season.

The Cobbold Stand's D Block will be open with access via the Centre Spot entrance.

Chris Kiwomya's side will again take part in the Combination East Division and the Suffolk Premier Cup.
