REFEREE Paul Taylor is standing by his decision to send off Alex Bruce against Bristol City last night, according to Ipswich Town team captain Gareth McAuley.
“The referee watched a video of the incident and confirmed that he believed he took the right action,” said McAuley, Bruce's defensive partner.
“It looked like a tackle from where I was, with both players sliding for the ball. Both were committed to win the ball. I was very surprised when I saw a red card.
“Alex is bitterly disappointed and there was certainly no malice intended.
“Playing beside Alex, I realise how well he is playing. He had to wait for his chance and kept his head down, worked hard and grabbed his opportunity.
