Roeder may face FA charge over outburst

NORWICH boss Glenn Roeder could find himself in hot water with the footballing authorities after his outburst against match referee Andy D'Urso at the weekend.

Roeder was furious at the Essex official after he gave a decision against the Canaries in the final moments of the match at Bristol City on Saturday - and the hosts went on to score the winning goal.

As soon as the final whistle went Roeder headed for D'Urso and confronted him in the centre circle, before tracking his every step as he headed for the dressing room.

Roeder admitted after the game that he was “not proud” of his actions and that it was the fist time in his career that he had confronted an official in such a way.

TV replays proved Roeder was right and that D'Urso got it badly wrong - but that didn't prevent the official from including the incident in his match report.

That report is now being considered by the FA's disciplinary team and could lead to a touchline ban and a fine for Roeder.

“It was reported and is now under consideration,” said an FA spokesman. “We will be looking at the referee's report in conjunction with video footage, which we generally do when such things are reported.”

Roeder was clearly still furious at D'Urso's mistake when he spoke to the media after the game.

“I have never ever, in all my life, remonstrated with a referee straight after a game by walking on to the pitch,” he said.

“I am not pleased with myself, I am not pleased with myself at all, but that was how strong I felt about D'Urso's performance, particularly the incident that led to their winning goal.”

Roeder has pretty much a clean sheet as far as disciplinary matters are concerned, and that is likely to stand him in good stead when the FA decide on their next move. Should Roeder be guilty of any charge of using abusive and/or insulting words he can expect a fine - and possibly a ban.

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton was fined by the FA for a similar incident earlier this season, but escaped a touchline ban.
