Roy: I'm in no rush to spend

IPSWICH Town boss Roy Keane says he is not itching to throw owner Marcus Evans' money about in the transfer market.

Having missed out on Sunderland targets Daryl Murphy and Dean Whitehead - the pair appearing to have opted for moves to Premier League clubs Hull and Stoke respectively - Keane admitted he is still hoping to make one or two more additions to his squad.

However, it looks like fans are going to have to be patient as Keane - whose chief executive and key transfer broker Simon Clegg is currently away on holiday for two weeks - returns to the drawing board.

“Believe it or not I'm not too keen to be going out and signing lots of players,” said Keane. “I've got lots of promising young lads and they will get their opportunity to impress me.

“All my players will get a chance, without a shadow of a doubt. Jon Walters, Shane Supple, Liam Trotter, young Jordan (Rhodes), young Connor (Wickham) - these are all lads that I didn't get chance to see at the end of last season that I have been able to watch over the last few days.”

He added: “I still think we are short of one or two players for the course of what will be a tough season, but things are very quiet at the moment and I'm not expecting anything to be done in the next week or so.

“My experience of Sunderland will certainly help me to get stuck into transfer dealings, but if you ask me if I'm interested in who is being signed elsewhere - absolutely not.

“What other clubs do is none of my business, but there's no getting away from the news these days and clearly one or two clubs are ready two spend. Forest are spending well, Cardiff have just spent �5m on Michael Chopra, while you would have to say we have been fairly quiet I suppose.

“The transfer market is just one part of the job for me. You can ask me if I prefer being on the training pitch, signing players or dealing with the media but for me it all comes under the umbrella of the job.”
