JORDAN Rhodes netted the winner as Ipswich Town reserves took their unbeaten league run to 12 games for the season.
But they were made to work hard for the win with Under-16s keeper Lewis Ward making a couple of sharp saves.
Rhodes netted early in the first half but scorned three good chances to further add to his prolific tally of goals.
Liam Trotter was also guilty of being off target, while Sito Castro was Town's best player along with Ward.
The Blues had a strong side sprinkled with first teamers, although back up keeper Nick Colgan was omitted, but the Cobblers were well-organised and determined.
