KELVIN Davis believes former club Ipswich Town should be a top flight club after all the investment they have had.

He said: "They're a club that probably should be in the Premier League, as I feel about us.

"I think they've had the backing investment-wise over the last year and I think the expectation grows with that.

"I hope they do have the pressure to deal with and I hope they don't deal with it very well and I hope that we take the three points.

"The midweek games at Portman Road are always a special occasion, there always seems to be an extra little bit of buzz there, so I'm looking forward to it."

Davis believes a stronger mentality has been generated in the Saints defence over the last week.

The Saints keeper has targeted a third win in a row tonight, as he returns to his former club Ipswich.

After being buoyed by a clean sheet against Cardiff on Saturday, Davis said he and the back four in front of him are more confident in keeping opposing sides out.

"You take the game on Saturday, balls are coming in the box and I didn't ever feel they were going to score," he said.

"It's not been that long ago that we certainly didn't have those feelings.

"We feel that we're heading in the right direction and it's about winning games now and trying to get those five or six wins that we need to be certain of safety as quickly as possible."

The back four has been much more settled under Mark Wotte and Davis feels that has been a big benefit.

"I think that with every settled back four comes a settled team," he said.

"Any manager would like to say that he doesn't want to change his back four or goalkeeper too often, because that's the backbone of your team.

"I think they're all starting to work on the pitch together a lot better.

"We're putting the hours in on the training ground as a back five.

"We're working on balls coming into the box, communication and what we can do to help each other and that comes as well with results, confidence builds and you start to feel like you can't be beat.

"As a back four, or back five, we're going to look to be pretty solid until the end of the season."

Despite winning two games in a row, Davis knows how important it is that Saints make it three victories on the trot tonight.

"It would be great," he said.

"We're looking to achieve that, obviously, and climb up the league.

"Results didn't go to our favour on Saturday, but you can't ever expect them to.

"We can only do what we can do and if we get three wins on the spin then we will be looking for four."
