IPSWICH Town have this morning declined to comment on growing speculation that Sunderland have made an offer for Connor Wickham.

It has been claimed the Black Cats have made an 8 million bid for the 18-year-old – potentially sparking an auction for the teenager which could also include the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.

But an Ipswich spokesman said: “It is our policy not to comment on speculation and we won’t be making any comment until there is something more concrete to say.”

Reports in the north east claim there has already been “productive” talks between Sunderland and Ipswich, although any bid of 8 million would seem short of Town’s own valuation of their prized asset.

Liverpool are said to be Wickham’s preferred choice although Blues boss Paul Jewell has repeatedly said he is under no pressure to sell the striker, even in the wake of the recent signings of Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington.
