IPSWICH Town have stepped up their quest to bring Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi to Portman Road.
Ameobi is now ready to leave his boyhood club with it becoming apparent he is not going to get regular football on Tyneside.
Adopting their standard policy of neither confirming nor denying interest in potential signings there was a 'no comment' answer from Portman Road this morning.
But there is little doubt that Blues manager Jim Magilton is pursuing a player who would cost around £2.5million - although an initial loan deal might be an option.
