Ipswich Town have been linked with a loan move for Leicester City striker Chris Wood, who may be allowed to leave the Foxes following the signing of £9m man Andrej Kramaric.

The New Zealand international has scored 14 goals in 53 appearances for Nigel Pearson’s side, but has found himself behind the likes of David Nugent and Jamie Vardy at the King Power Stadium this season. A host of other Championship clubs are also thought to be keen on taking the former West Brom man on a temporary basis.

Town made a loan move for Leeds striker Bill Sharp last week, but were unable to strike a deal with the Whites, who fielded the ex-Reading and Nottingham Forest striker from the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham at Elland Road.

After the game, Leeds boss Neil Redfearn said he was keen to keep the 28-year-old hitman.

“Billy Sharp’s a Leeds United player. That’s it,” said Redfearn.

“He looked busy and bright. You want to keep your best players and add better players to them. That’s the idea. He came on and gave us momentum.”

When asked about Town’s potential move for the striker, the Leeds boss added: “I wouldn’t know. I can only deal with what’s put in front of me. As far as I know, Billy’s a Leeds player and he’s competing for a place up front.”

Mewanwhile, Blues boss Mick McCarthy revealed a deal had been agreed in principle to bring in a goalkeeper on a short-term loan, as cover for Dean Gerken.

Bolton stopper Paddy Kenny’s name has been linked.
