Ipswich Town have signed former Leeds United and Hull City winger Cameron Stewart on a three-year deal, with the option for a fourth.

The 23-year-old who won the penalty for Leeds’ equaliser against Ipswich, at Elland Road in January, joins fellow new left-sided widemen Alex Henshall and Stephen Hunt at the club.

Stewart began his career at Manchester United where he failed to make an appearance and has also had spells with Yeovil, Burnley, Blackburn and Charlton on loan.

Stewart has also won international honours, accruing 10 caps for England’s under-17, 19 and 20 teams.

He was due to pen a permanent three-year contract at Leeds this summer, following his temporary spell in West Yorkshire, but the Whites seemingly changed their mind on completing the deal.

“We’ve got good wide players and Cameron adds to that,” manager Mick McCaarthy told the club website.

“He can play on either flank but he’s a right footer who likes playing on the left, where he can cut in and look to shoot.

“He’s very quick and can put crosses in and when he played against him when he was at Charlton and Leeds last season, he was one player that we highlighted that could cause us damage.

“We paid special attention to him and he’s got that bit of quality about him. He’s an exciting player who likes to take people on. He has the ability to make things happen.”
