Ipswich Town winger Larsen Toure caused a stir on Tuesday night as he threw his shirt into the crowd at Doncaster, thinking the game was already over.

The Guinea international gave his shirt to a fan at the end of Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash but, with the score stood at 1-1 after 90 minutes, there was still the prospect of extra-time.

Fortunately he was able to rescue his jersey and went on to play an important role as his cross found David McGoldrick who headed the Blues into the lead.

Further goals from James Alabi and Ryan Fraser sealed the deal for Ipswich, who eventually won 4-1 and set up a third round clash with Manchester United.

Once the full-time whistle went, for real this time, Toure returned his shirt to the crowd and left to a heroes welcome.

“He needs help!” joked Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy. “We’ll have to get him some treatment or something. I think some of the fans were telling him actually. As much as they wanted his shirt, I think they realised he needed it for another 30 minutes.

“Look, it is what it is – it’s funny now. He was great. I think he’ll be a good player for us.”
