MORITZ Volz today completed his year-long loan deal from Fulham and vowed to help take Ipswich Town into the Premier League.

The 25-year-old defender is in manger Jim Magilton's squad for the Coca-Cola Championship match at Watford tomorrow (kick off 5.20pm) and he says that he cannot wait to get started.

And the first German to play for the Blues added: “There is every chance that the deal can be made permanent and this would improve if Ipswich were to gain promotion to the top flight.

“With their facilities and their support Ipswich have enough to become a Premier League club and this move for me was basically straightforward.

“I have been in the Town since Monday after Ipswich and Fulham agreed I could move and it was just a case of sorting out one or two things. There are aspects of every transfer or loan that have to be fully covered before they are completed.”

But Voltz warned Blues' supporters that getting promotion from the Championship will be no easy matter.

He added: “We have a very interesting nine months or so ahead of us in what I am sure will be a tight knit division.

“From what I have seen of the players at the club Ipswich have the potential to go up but it will mean maximising performances all around the team to achieve this and come out on top in a high-class league.

“I feel fit and have had a full pre-season although I have not played 90 minutes for a fortnight.

“Hopefully I can play tomorrow but at the end of the day it will be up to the manager. I feel as though I can.”

Volz is predicting a close shave victory at Watford tomorrow.

The German writes a column for The Times newspaper and in Monday's article he was describing how he had been growing a beard and likening it to famous footballers who have also had lots of facial hair.

Volz said today: “I did say I would shave it off when I scored a goal, and hopefully this will come tomorrow.

“But if not it is a mate's stag do tomorrow night and I will probably take it off after that.”
