IPSWICH Town manager Jim Magilton has no intention of parting company with nine-goal Jonathan Walters.

The former Chester player has been linked with a £1million move to Newcastle United, but these rumours have been knocked down by Toon manager Sam Allardyce, who said: “I had Jonathan with me at Bolton Wanderers and I'm delighted that he's doing so well with Ipswich, but he's not someone I'm looking to bring in.”

Whether Magilton is prepared to allow left-sided midfielder Gary Roberts depart Portman Road is another matter.

Roberts' former club Accrington Stanley are showing an interest in the player they sold to Town last January for a reported £200,000.

And with the 23-year-old currently out of favour a loan deal is a possibility for a player with a Town contract until 2010.

Roberts has struggled to repeat last season's form, with Accrington assistant manager Jimmy Bell saying: “I keep in touch with Gary and we are monitoring the situation.

“Ipswich have more or less said they are prepared to listen to offers. We wouldn't be able to afford him, but the next option would be a loan.

“Gary's played in Ipswich's last three away games, but their away form is poor and their home form good so he has found himself a bit trapped. Plus, they play a different system that just hasn't really suited him.”
