IPSWICH Town manager Paul Jewell has quashed rumours that 17-year-old left-back Joe Whight could sign for a Premier League club this summer.
Following speculation in the national newspapers that Arsenal and Newcastle were monitoring Whight’s performances, Jewell said: “I’ve agreed a contract with Joe and his mum and dad, the only reason it hasn’t been signed yet is because I’ve been away and he’s been away.
“I’m not aware of any interest from Arsenal or Newcastle. As far as I’m concerned he will sign when we get back.”
The former Copleston High School enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Blues at Under-18 and reserve team level.
