JOE Whight has today put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract at Ipswich Town.

The 17-year-old left-back impressed for the club’s Under-18s and reserves last season and was said to have been watched by scouts at Premier League clubs Arsenal and Newcastle.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has always remained confident that the teenager would chose to start his professional career at Ipswich and that has proved to be the case with the former Copleston High School pupil revealing on Twitter: “So happy, just signed my pro contract with Ipswich. Now looking forward to the season ahead!”
