IPSWICH TOWN: Blues’ rising star Connor Wickham has been voted by fans to be included in the Great Britain squad for next year’s Olympic Games.
Three players over the age of 23 are allowed to be included, and 18-year-old Wickham, who scored nine goals for Town last season, has been named as one of the substitutes in the poll.
Wickham received 16% of the vote of a national survey carried out by Faces of Britain website, www.facesofbritain.co.uk.
Harry Redknapp was nominated to take charge of the team, which is as follows: Joe Hart (82%), Kyle Walker (31%), Gareth Bale (96%), Rio Ferdinand (42%), Chris Smalling (65%), Theo Walcott (68%), Jack Wilshere (81%), Aaron Ramsey (64%), Jack Rodwell (42%), Wayne Rooney (51%), Andy Carroll (69%). Substitutes: Allan McGregor (8%), Kieran Gibbs (28%), Phil Jones (23%), Ryan Giggs (27%), Steven Gerrard (18%), Daniel Sturridge (44%), Connor Wickham (16%).
Hart, Ferdinand, Rooney, McGregor, Giggs and Gerrard are the overage players.
