Wickham still out

CONNOR Wickham has not shrugged off a thigh injury in time to feature at Preston this weekend.

CONNOR Wickham has not shrugged off a thigh injury in time to feature at Preston this weekend.

Roy Keane had hoped that Wickham might have an outside chance of returning at Deepdale, but the teenage striker will remain on the sidelines along with Luke Hyam and Gareth McAuley.

However, skipper David Norris will return after injury and defender Darren O’Dea is optimistic of playing after sustaining a sore hamstring during last weekend’s 3-1 home defeat to Swansea.

“There’s no real change. The injured players are still injured,” revealed Keane at this morning’s press conference.

“Connor (Wickham) has no chance, while Gareth (McAuley) will be out until January and Luke is a few weeks ago.

“Mark Kennedy does have an outside chance after his hamstring injury, but we don’t want to be rushing him back. If he does start, we might just get an hour out of him.

“Darren (O’Dea) is hoping to train today and tomorrow, so he should be OK. And his girlfriend has had the baby,” added Keane.

Celtic loanee O’Dea had been returning to Glasgow regularly to be with his girlfriend over the last fortnight.
