IPSWICH Town boss Roy Keane praised his match-winner Carlos Edwards for the first-half thunderbolt that wrapped up a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday today.

Edwards netted his first goal for nearly three years with a 25-yard cracker to propel Town out of the bottom three.

Keane said: "Carlos was fresh and hungry and desperate to play.

"He has always had goals in his locker, and as soon as he hit it, I knew that it was a goal.

"He set himself up with the first touch. It had a goal written all over it.

"Not being able to kill off teams has been our problem all season, but I felt that today we did just enough to get the win.

"Of course we are relieved to have hung on. The keeper (Brian Murphy) did well on his debut and will be delighted with his clean-sheet, while young Shane O'Connor did not look like a raw youngster at all.

He played well against some experienced lads."

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine said: "I'm very disappointed. It was a big game for us and there is no hiding that fact.

"It was a game we desperately wanted to win, but we didn't show enough composure or quality on the ball. We didn't open Ipswich enough."
