Ipswich Wanderers will try again tomorrow to make it through to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase.

After last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Bowers & Pitsea, from the Essex Senior Division, Glen Read’s side were thwarted in their attempts to progress on Tuesday, when the replay was called off due to the inclement weather.

Shane Wardley equalised for Wanderers after five minutes of the opening tie, after Bowers had gone ahead courtesy of James Stevens.

The winners will collect £2,500 for prevailing in the tie and will set up a last-eight clash at home to Oxfordshire side, Kidlington, next Saturday.

The Essex side will be slight favourites, given their home advantage, although their manager, Rob Small, says there is nothing between the teams.

“Ipswich are beatable but that’s exactly what their manager would say about Bowers,” said Small.

“It was a well-fought and even contest with both teams having their moments.

“There is no clear favourite going into this.

“We need the support of the local people and the rub of the green on the day.

“Things just didn’t seem to go for us on Saturday. I’m sure Ipswich Wanderers feel it was a chance missed as they had the better of the game after the hour mark.

“We are at home. We will throw everything at them and will represent our league and the whole of Essex football the best we can.”

Already through to the last eight are Hereford – the re-formed phoenix club making a good fist of things in their first ever season – following the demise of former Football League side, Hereford United.

They are at home to Camberley Town, while in the other ties, Salisbury host Ashford United and Morpeth Town entertain Bristol Manor Farm.

Suffolk has a decent pedigree in the competition with Sudbury Town reaching the 1989 final, eventually losing in a replay to Tamworth, AFC Sudbury losing three finals in a row during the mid-2000s and Lowestoft Town losing 2-1 to Kirkham & Wesham in 2008.
