RETIRING goalkeeper Jamie Stannard was the hero as Ipswich Wanderers won the LB Group Suffolk FA Senior Cup at Portman Road tonight.

Stannard, who was playing his last match before hanging up his gloves, saved four spot kicks in a penalty shoot-out as Wanderers defeated Whitton United 3-2, after a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.

Whitton were aiming to become the first side to win the competition three years in a row for 58 years, and they looked on course when Chris Williams put them into a 25th minute lead.

However, Wanderers equalised through James Heathcote in the 62nd minute to take the tie into extra time, where Whitton had Anton Clarke dismissed for two yellow cards just before the final whistle.
